Post-doctoral Multi-Omics Bioinformatician

We are looking for a Bioinformatician with a proven background in cancer and genomics healthcare areas, with strong previous experiences in complex data modelling to deliver even better clinical services.

Your main contribution will be focused on multi-omics data modelling and data integration exploiting a significant and fast-growing number of complex datasets available in national and international research projects carried on. In detail, complex data will include, clinical, genomics (both NGS and Single Cell Analysis), imaging, treatment and outcome data associated to a specific disease. Such complex data are always collected considering a specific disease-related population, where the main diseases considered are cancers, with main focus on those of hematological type.

The main objectives of the research activity will be genomic landscaping of rare diseases, patient stratification, disease-gene prediction, drug repurposing; the common purpose leading the research activities is that of a progress toward a data-driven personalized medicine for a better health care system.

You will be part of the Humanitas AI Center reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer. The AI Center of Humanitas, a fast-paced research team at one among Italy’s best institutions working in the biomedical research field, is focused in research in the field of Artificial Intelligence applied in healthcare. Research and development areas include predictive and decision-support systems based on data-driven model (ML/DL models) to optimize clinical processes and ultimately improve the quality of patient care. We are a team of multidisciplinary scientists who work day by day on e-health and AI projects, by collaborating with clinical staff (doctors, nurses, researchers) and management staff.

 

Main activities

  • Shape multi-omics datasets to obtain machine learning ready data structures
  • Support the design of novel algorithms and data analysis approaches for understanding significant dynamics and patterns from complex data
  • Design and perform multi-omics data analysis to investigate, explore and define disease-specific relevant markers and key features for hematological care process improvement
  • Create and iterate possibly scalable computational models, in order to make the theoretical findings applicable to real data and transferable to support routine activities
  • Collaborate with external partners on cross-academic research projects

 

Candidate profile

We are looking for motivated candidates who appreciate challenging tasks, objectives and are strongly oriented to both scientific excellence, high performance computing and human relationships.

Mandatory Requirements

PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Informatics, Biostatistics or equivalent professional experience (3+ years in the same field).

Fluent in written and spoken English and Italian.

 

Hard Skills

  • Knowledge of the most commonly used bioinformatics data analysis pipelines and ability to apply them to genomic data analysis (gene expression, methylation, CNV, somatic mutations, SNPs)
  • Strong scripting and programming skills (mainly using Python and R)
  • Knowledge of relational database management and query tools (SQL)
  • Strong background in Biology
  • Knowledge of the most advanced methods for complex data analysis (normalization, imputation, harmonization, clustering)

Strongly recommended

  • Work experience in the field of bioinformatics, biology, medicine, systems biology or systems medicine
  • Knowledge of Single Cell Analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of the most common machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machines or Random Forests
  • Experience with data science frameworks (e.g. tensorflow, pytorch, scikit-learn, scipy, pandas, numpy) and visualization frameworks (e.g. plotly, seaborn, matplotlib)
  • Knowledge of the most advanced methods for analysis of imaging data
