The following describes the objectives, clinical and educational activities of the Haemodynamics Fellowship for the year 2026, conducted under the direct supervision of Dr. Gabriele Gasparini - Head of Cath Lab - Humanitas Research Hospital.

The program is focused on coronary intervention, with particular emphasis on the treatment of complex lesions, chronic total coronary occlusions (CTO), and the exclusive use of radial access, both proximal and distal.

 

 

Training Objectives

  • Develop proficiency in basic and advanced coronary angioplasty techniques
  • Acquire specific skills in managing CTOs, including antegrade and retrograde approaches
  • Systematically use proximal and distal radial access, with attention to complication prevention
  • Interpret intracoronary imaging (IVUS, OCT) and functional imaging (FFR/iFR) to guide therapeutic decisions

 

 

Clinical and Educational Activities

  • Active participation in all coronary procedures performed by Dr. Gabriele Gasparini, including complex cases and CTOs
  • Performing procedures via proximal and distal radial access in agreement with the tutor
  • Weekly conferences discussing complex cases and literature reviews
  • Monthly journal club focusing on high-impact articles in the field of coronary intervention
  • Periodic workshops dedicated to advanced techniques (e.g., dissection re-entry, retrograde CTO)
  • Participation in national and international conferences, presenting cases or original abstracts

12 (twelve) months

 

Fellowship Eligibility Requirement

Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree, and prior experience gained either during specialization or through previous work in the field of interventional cardiology will be considered an advantage

 

 

Fellowship Selection Process

The scholarship will be awarded solely on the basis of merit, following a careful evaluation of submitted CVs and the aforementioned skills. In order for the selected candidate to acquire the expected competencies, a structured and coherent training program focused on Interventional Cardiology will be implemented.
