The Humanitas Clinical Center, IRCCS is seeking a motivated young molecular biologist or research technician to join our Humanitas Genomic Facility (HuGe). The mission of the HuGe is to facilitate the development and implementation of innovative methods and emerging sequencing technologies that directly aid precision medicine efforts. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chair of the Facility Management.

As part of a larger group that uses next-generation sequencing approaches (NGS), we are recruiting a new colleague graduate or a technician with short laboratory experience to provide a wide array of technical support for various clinical studies and NGS assays derived from the collaborative interactions with many different scientific groups within Humanitas Clinical Center as well outside the hospital.

The candidate will be trained to be responsible for the daily lab operations in the HuGe labs, including customer interactions, quality control of sequencing samples, operating the Illumina sequencing instruments, construction of sequencing libraries, and ordering supplies. The successful candidate will be able to operate very independently, manage many projects at once, keep accurate records, and execute complex molecular biology protocols in a robust and consistent manner.

Skills and responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • maintain and purchase kits and supplies, managing datasets, and specimen management;
  • isolate and prepare high quality DNA, RNA specimens for downstream analysis;
  • maintaining the state-of-the-art next-generation sequencing platforms and protocols;
  • support and supervise other groups in sample preparation as well as in quality check;
  • cooperate with other groups to implement novel technologies;
  • constantly optimize protocols and maximize cost-effectiveness;
  • participate actively in the facility activity;
  • report regularly on progress to the HuGe chair.

Job requirements

The candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree field of science;
  • At least one year of hands-on experience in the laboratory and use of sequencing technologies;
  • require a high-level of understanding and technical skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility;
  • Proven ability to work in a research laboratory both autonomously and as part of a team to drive projects forward;
  • Written and spoken English;
  • Proven communication, team building and problem-solving skills.
